WHAT DOES RIVER THAMES MEAN TO YOU?

This year Trapped in Zone One has been selected to be part of the annual Totally Thames Festival, which takes place from the 1st to 30th September 2019.

To keep in theme with the festivals vision of connecting with diverse communities from all parts of London and help the well-being of Londoners through creative activities, we want everyone to engage with us based on our question above sharing your hidden untold stories and close memories via Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #JustTypeRiver to ‘What does River Thames mean to you?

Based on the responses we receive from our hashtag campaign which runs till 18th August 2019, we will be collating the answers and hosting a special live art showcase with lettering artists Lana Hughes and Neboe at London Bridge Hive on 8th September where we will create a 2m long typography themed River Thames artwork incorporating messages from Londoners by Londoners celebrating all that is good about the iconic River Thames.

Another aspect to our event is that we are offering a free well-being workshop to all ages hosted by award winning Writer and Poet; Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and Mindfulness Practitioner Farida Momtaz, using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) themed around River Thames.

The #JustType CBT Rock workshop is free to attend via booking a place through Eventbrite here, and all the materials will be provided.

This workshop is designed to increase your vocabulary and create a positive message using the art of lettering based on our question above through poetry and change negative thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

Objectives:

  • Understand how our thoughts affect our feelings and behaviour

  • Learn a range of words to describe emotions and characteristics

  • Identify positive emotions through words

  • Create a short poem themed around River Thames that can be written on a rock, which acts as a tool to change negative feelings and encourage positive behaviour

Outcomes:

  • Increased awareness of thoughts, feelings and behaviour

  • Ability to identify negative thoughts and feelings

  • Acquire sustainable tools to manage thoughts, feelings and behaviour

  • Increased self-esteem and emotional expression
